The experience
Let me walk you through what to expect from your portrait experience and how it all works here at Laura Ridley Photography.
Step 1 - Booking
You love my work and are ready to book! Yay!
Since I also work as an ECE teacher (and I am actively studying towards my Bachelor of Teaching), I can only take on limited sessions each week.
Your due date will be scheduled into my calender and then once baby has arrived, and you are all settled - get in touch and we will schedule your session.
Step 2 - Pre-Consultation
A quick chat to get to know you and what you'd love from your session.
Step 3 - The session
This is where the magic happens!
When you arrive, the studio is already warm and cozy — just like a little cocoon — so your baby feels safe and settled. We’ll take our time, moving at your baby’s pace. If they need a feed, a cuddle, or a nappy change, that’s all part of the session. Nothing is rushed; everything is about making sure your baby (and you!) are comfortable.
I’ll gently guide your baby into natural, snuggly poses, highlighting those sweet details; tiny fingers, curled toes, wispy hair, and peaceful expressions. Soft wraps, delicate textures, and neutral tones are used to enhance their natural beauty without distraction. You’ll find yourself smiling as you watch your little one drift into a dreamy sleep, perfectly content under the warm lights.
Parents and siblings are always welcome to join in. These moments of connection become some of the most treasured images of all.
Step 4 - Online gallery
See your photos for the first time in your online gallery. Your gallery will be available to view and order from for 48 hours.
You will then be able to decide which photographs you would like to purchase and how you would like to display your photographs.

Meet your photographer
Hi, I’m Laura! I am a mum of three – for the past 15 years, I’ve been creating award winning photographs which adorn the walls of my clients homes and are proudly shared with family and friends.
It wasn’t till I had my own children that I truly realised how much of a treasure a single “photograph” could be. Memories so precious, but oh so fleeting, can be frozen in time and preserved for future generations. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to capture the memories of families across New Zealand. Everyday I am reminded that photography isn’t for today, it’s for our future. I literally am so grateful to do this for a living.
There’s nothing I love more than capturing those first precious weeks of a baby’s life. These weeks pass by so quickly, i want every parent to be able to look back on these moments and re-live these first few weeks through the photos that we capture together.

Questions
I recommend booking your newborn session during your second or early third trimester. This ensures we have a spot held for you around your due date, as spots are limited each month.
The best time to photograph newborns is between 5–14 days old. During this time, babies are typically sleepier and more curled up, which makes posing easier and safer.
No worries! We can still capture beautiful images of your baby. Older newborns may be more alert, but we can still get gorgeous awake and wrapped shots. Just get in touch, and we’ll chat about what’s possible.
All newborn sessions take place in my warm, cozy home studio in Lower Hutt, fully equipped with props, wraps, and all the comforts you and baby need.
Sessions typically last 1-2 hours to allow time for feeding, cuddles, and settling. Your baby sets the pace, and we go with their flow.
